What this site is, who it is for, and what it will not do.
What this is
mPAKT News is a reading front page. We continuously index the public feeds that newsrooms publish for exactly this purpose, rank what is there against what each reader has shown an interest in, and put the single most relevant story at the top of the page. Everything below it is ordered by how likely it is to matter to you.
We are not a publisher. We do not write, rewrite, summarise or reproduce anyone's journalism. Each item shows the headline and the short standfirst the publisher put in their own feed, credits the newsroom, and links straight to their site. Reading happens there, and the publisher gets the visit.
Why a ranked front page
A reader following twenty newsrooms sees the same five stories twenty times and misses the one report that would have changed their mind. Chronological feeds reward whoever publishes most often. A ranked front page can reward whatever is most worth your attention instead — provided it is honest about what it is optimising for. Ours is set out in full on the ranking page.
What we will not do
- Show you what we have inferred about you. The ranking is visible only as the order of the page.
- Sell or broker your personal information.
- Reproduce a publisher's article text beyond the summary they syndicate themselves.
- Accept payment from a publisher for placement. Ranking is not for sale, and advertising is kept separate from and clearly marked against editorial listings.
